It
became a pub game, to recall as many bands as possible named for points on a
map: Kansas, Boston, Chicago, Chilliwack, Europe, Toronto, Alabama. In reality,
no one should be able to name so many. It wasn’t about who might have lost, but
the stigma attached to those who won.

i've been to most of those places - except for chilliwack and alabama - i heard the band chicago perform in a free concert on cambridge common in massachusetts, long, long ago
looking at the wikipedia entry for the band alabama, i realized i could not recall any of their hits - that's because of the radio stations i've listened to, and not listened to - "sweet home alabama" as performed by lynyrd skynyrd, on the other hand, still has a place on the dinosaur rock i tune to in the car
