The Western Swing: a slew of Saskatchewan + Alberta Poets

The Pitch

Long time League member and former Poet Laureate of Saskatchewan Glen Sorestad [see his 12 or 20 questions here], Saskatchewan Rep Katherine Lawrence and Alberta Rep Dymphny Dronyk have cooked up a National Poetry Month adventure they're calling "Western Swing" as part of the League's Poetry Without Borders initiative during National Poetry Month in April.

Here's what happening during the four stop Western Swing tour:

Stop 1. April 12, 3-5 PM - Tour kicks off when five poets from Saskatchewan - Glen Sorestad, Shelley Leedahl, Lynda Monahan, Gerry Hill and Katherine Lawrence come to Edmonton for reading at Mandolin Books with rob mclennan, Allan Boss, Jenna Butler [see her 12 or 20 questions here], Wendy McGrath, Andy Michaelson, and Dymphny Dronyk.

Stop 2. April 29, 7:30 PM - Tour crosses Alberta's western border for a reading in Grande Prairie at the Rabbit Hole Bookstore with Donna Kane from Dawson Creek, BC as well as Jenna Butler, rob mclennan, Alexis Kienlen, Catherine McLaughlin and Dymphny Dronyk.

Stop 3. May 2, 6:30 PM [NOTE TIME CHANGE]- Tour does reading in Calgary at Pages Books with rob mclennan Allan Boss, Jenna Butler, Wendy McGrath, Andy Michaelson, Bob Stallworthy, Stuart Ian McKay and Dymphny Dronyk.

Stop 4 May 3, 7-9 PM - Six Alberta poets head east to Saskatoon for a reading there with rob mclennan, Allan Boss, Jenna Butler, Andy Michaelson, Dymphny Dronyk, Bob Stallworthy as well as a gathering of Saskatoon's finest!

The purpose of the tour (other than a great excuse to embark on a road trip just as the prairie is greening to the hopeful hues of spring) is to raise awareness and a wee bit of money for the venerable League of Canadian Poets.
